What is Mental Performance?

The Map is Not the Territory.

What you believe and "HOW" you feel dictates the quality of life you live.

Life Coaching and Mental Performance isn't to tell you how to live your life. It's to help you identify for yourself how you make decisions that lead you to act or feel a certain way. We often think it's our life conditions. The things that happen to us, but in reality it's what we decide about that event and the label and meaning we give the experience that gives us a feeling we either like or dislike.

Often we look at life through a set of beliefs or fears we created over our life time. We use these filters to shape the experience of our life. Yet our reality may be quite different. Some of us have a hard time because the life or situation we envisioned isn't lining up with our reality. Our vision or feeling about what life should be and the reaction we get to this vision or feeling is the map. The territory is our reality. A representation of what's really happened or happening and not our perception of events. Which is why when reality doesn't line up to our expectations, I say that the map is not the territory.

Almost everyone that comes to me is looking for the "how". They're asking:
How can I...? How do I...? What does life look like if...? Am I...?

Perhaps you're asking yourself a similar question. Changing the map is easier than it sounds. The strategies I've developed and used with my clients have helped them shape their world to properly recognize and avoid the things they don't want in their life, while quickly achieving and attracting the things they do want.

Meet Anthony Butkovic

Anthony Butkovic lives in Edmonton with his wife and works with clients from a variety of backgrounds. He has had the pleasure of working with Professional Athletes, Coaches, and Clients all over North America. After a career consulting in Disability Management with many of Canada's Employers, he had an opportunity to pursue his dream and join the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League (CFL). It was there working as an Assistant Defensive Coach and Player Engagement that he expanded his skill set in Mental Performance.

Inspired by his work with Professional Athletes he became a Certified Life Coach, Certified Strategic Interventionist, and Master Neuro-Linguistic (NLP) Practitioner.

From there he worked on developing the strategies he now uses to help clients achieve their goals, overcome mental obstacles, and how to deal with coming back from injury and improving mental health.

Anthony's passion and personal history also helps him to work with people that are dealing with many of life's challenges. The truth is, sometimes things in life just happen. You can experience issues in relationships, an injury, job loss, or  divorce. Perhaps it's mental health concerns like anxiety, depression, or fears. The strategies that Anthony has developed will help you overcome these obstacles to appreciate life and show you how to move forward by controlling your thoughts and emotions. By giving you the skills that will stay with you a life time.

Anthony has spent over ten years as a coach at the amateur and professional levels. He understands the impact culture can have on results. There is something special about the relationship between a coach and his athletes. A focus on team culture and athlete development has led to successful results in the coaches Anthony has worked with.

Having worked in the corporate environment for over a decade, as well as successful experience in sales, he also works with professionals in sales and corporations (including small business) to help their organizations and their employees increase sales, productivity, and efficiency.

BUTKOVIC MENTAL PERFORMANCE WILL...

Help You Understand
On a basic level we are either looking to avoid pain or gain pleasure. Every day, the decisions we make are in part driven by this outcome.

By knowing how we've made decisions that have brought us here, this can help us change the process and get what we want out of life.

Work Past the Limitations

We are born with two natural fears. The fear of falling and the fear of loud noises. Everything else we've learned over our life time.

It's this fear that could be preventing you from changing, or making a decision to take an action so you can let go and move forward.
Find Fulfillment

What's the point of gaining the whole world if you're not happy and fulfilled? How many people do you know have the money, house, career, family, and on the outside look happy. But really they're miserable. Fulfillment is an artform that can be achieved by anyone. I help you understand the principles to mastering this art.

I work with you to come up with the very best solutions for your challenges! How does this work?

Butkovic Mental Performance

Provides the Results You Want

My expertise helps you get the mindset you need to recover from an injury, be the person you want to be in a relationship, or take your athletic career to the next level.

Injury & Illness Mindset

I know what it's like to recover from an injury or have a career change because of multiple injuries. This can have a toll on a person and their family. For over 15 years I have seen thousands of injuries with people from all backgrounds. When I look to see what was the difference between those that recovered well and those that struggled...it was their mindset. Researchers have proven this. With Butkovic Mental Performance, together we work to create the mindset that will carry you through recovery. I provide you with practical strategies to overcome fear and anxiety or other barriers that you may face because of the injury.

Athlete Coaching

What is the cliché? Sports is 80% mental and 20% physical. In the past few years Mental Performance Coaching has grown among athletes. As a Professional/Amateur Football Coach I've seen the struggles facing athletes today. As your coach we discuss the things you can't talk about with your team, coaching staff, or inner circle. I work with you to take what already makes you successful and magnify it so that you have the strategies when you need it to be successful. You'll be able to use these strategies at practice, the locker room, on the field/rink/pitch, or at home.

Relationship Coaching

Are you in a relationship, but it could use some help? Perhaps you're single and looking for that special someone. Regardless, Butkovic Mental Performance will work with you to create a lasting and fulfilling relationship. If you're divorced or going through a separation moving forward can be difficult but doesn't have to be. Together we can create the resources you need to move forward.

Teams and Organizations

The culture of a company or sports team can make a huge impact on the success of the organization. With Butkovic Mental Performance, I help you identify the areas and adjustments needed to create a successful organization. You'll learn what are the common traits found in successful organizations and how you can use this to make the changes you want. How to get your athletes or employees to buy-in and become your #1 fans.

What's Holding You Back From Getting Help?

You are on this site for a reason, and while you're reading all of the material you might be trying to convince yourself it's ok to book that appointment and get assistance.

I want to take a second and address some of the common reasons, folks won't get help.

01 Fear

There are many ways you can be afraid.

As an example, for some of us, we worry that talking to someone might confirm we're "crazy" or "not normal" or "something is wrong with us".

That cannot be further from the truth. The truth is, you're experiencing feelings and you want to change them. Especially in the moments that are toughest.

I can tell you with absolute certainty that everyone is dealing with something. Why not get what you need to live the life you want.

02 Judgement

Many people I talk to feel insecure. They feel life is uncertain and they are unsure about themselves and where they stand in life. If they talk to someone, they could risk what little comfort they have left.

When you admit to someone that you need help the perception is that you're opening up to judgement. I have been there.

This is why I ensure that my clients feel safe to share their trials, so that we can work together to achieve the goal you have. It's about helping you and not what others think.

03 I Don't Need It

For some this can be a clinical issue and should be addressed by a psychologist. They truly don't know that they need help.

For the majority it's a form of denial. The only time we seek help is when the feelings we don't want get so bad, we say "something has to change." So you look for help.

Another reason is that you've lived with this for so long it's become your new normal, and you don't know you can get help for it.

04 It's too Difficult

If you can't even get out of bed because you're so depressed, or talking to someone literally scares you to death. Just getting the courage and motivation to book a session can be hard.

While it's true change is possible, there is a part of you that would want that change. Getting support from others can be a great help.

If you know someone that needs help, but are unsure how to go about it, you can book an introductory call and we can discuss how best to go about this task.

05 Logistical Issue

Technology has now made it possible to reach anyone with the click of a button. Online video conferencing can be achieved almost anywhere these days. I've had clients that live in the bush while they are working on a job site.

Others travel so much I never know where they'll be. Video conferencing can give a very similiar experience to in-person as it lets us see each other and the physical response to the conversation.

If there is a barrier that keeps you from getting help, I want to know, so together we can find a solution to accommodate you.

06 Unfamiliar

What happens in a session? What do I have to do? Will I be able to control myself?

Many people think that the work I do involves them laying there and telling me all about their problems while I sit quietly and take notes. Then we blame the parents and move on.

My sessions involve an engaging conversation where I look for ways to identify how you're feeling what you do and what would need to change so you feel differently. Using a variety of techniques I create a safe environment for you to share. We move at your pace and at your comfort level to ensure maximum results.

The truth is the perception of getting mental help has changed considerably in the last few years thanks to the courage of many high profile people. We are learning more and more about our brains and what it can do for us. That we can control it and that it doesn't control us.

Take a chance. Book an introductory call. It is absolutely FREE. If after the call you don't feel that Butkovic Performance Coaching is for you, no problem. It cost you 30 mins of your time to find an answer. Whether it's with me or someone else, I want you to get what you're looking for to be your best. I truly look forward to hearing from you.

If you're worried about making a decision, remember that not making a decision is also a decision. Start with the 30 mins introductory call and get your questions answered before you make a decision.

Common Questions

Here are some answers to questions I often get.
  • What are your business hours?

My hours vary on the need of the client. It's been my goal to ensure that clients get the best service. Typically though, I'll have clients between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. MST.

  • How long is a session?

It depends on the program or where we are at in your journey.

I always start with an introductory call which lasts 30-45 minutes. This is a call where I find out what you think is the issue and where you would like help. I then explain my services, what to expect from me and a session, and then any coaching recommendations. We will talk about programs I offer and the terms. From there if you feel we are a fit we proceed to further sessions or program.

After the introductory call, a typical session would last approximately 60 minutes. However, if we hit an important point at 55 minutes, I have reserved extra time to address this at no extra charge.

In some cases, such as phobia cures or a session that involves more complex strategies, sessions can take up to 3 hours as we go until you get a result.

In some of my programs a session is only 30 minutes as that is all that is required or fits a client's schedule.

The important thing to understand is that a session is meant to serve you and is not bound by time. We would discuss timeframes as they relate to your needs.

  • What type of payment methods do you accept?

Typically clients will pay by e-transfer, but most credit cards are also accepted.

Payment is usually due prior to the session, unless you are part of a program.

  • In what ways are sessions completed?

As a result of COVID, in-person sessions have been suspended for the time being, but in some situations accommodations can be made.

Typically, sessions are completed by video conference using Zoom or Facetime. This allows me to see the physical response to questions or strategies. It also allows me to teach you how to be more aware of your physical response and how to use it to manage your emotions and thoughts.

In some cases, sessions are conducted via phone. These are similiar to video conferencing without the ability to see one another.

Regardless of your situation, we will find the vehicle that serves you best.

  • Are you going to tell me how to live my life?

    NO!

Whether it's life or mental performance coaching, it's not my job to tell you what to do.

A coach's job is to help you understand the game better, how the game is played, the rules, and help you or show you how to use the abilities you already have to win.

The game of life comes down to some basic principles. When you understand what drives you, how you make the decisions you do, what you want out of life, and how to change the way you feel or act...life becomes so much easier. Relationships feel stronger. You see things differently. The conversations are better.

This is a small part of what contributes to a more fulfilling life.

  • How quickly can I notice results?

    It all depends.

When we start a session I will ask you what you're intention is for that session. If you're a part of a program, we will progress you accordingly.

Many clients feel a change in their first session. I act as a mirror and then give you the skills to impact your life to get the results you're looking for.

In many cases, the faster you can let go of thoughts, beliefs, and negative identities that don't serve you, the faster you will see results.

We move at your pace to ensure you're comfortable throughout your journey.
